Daniel C. Smith is a patent agent, registered before the Canadian and U.S. Patent Offices, at Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (“BRP”) in Valcourt, Quebec. BRP (TSX:DOO) is a global leader in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of powersports vehicles and propulsion systems. BRP has approximately 8000 employees worldwide and more than 70 years of industry leading innovation.
After almost a decade in private practice, Daniel joined BRP in 2011 as Intellectual Property Engineer. In this capacity, he is responsible for identifying, evaluating and protecting innovations originating from product development and advanced engineering groups, formulating patentability, freedom-to-operating, infringement and invalidity opinions, and supporting the commercial and litigation legal teams in IP matters. Daniel is regularly called upon to train employees on the importance of IP and IP best practices and advise senior management on IP strategy.
Daniel holds a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University.
