Senior Fellow, Centre for International Governance and Innovation
Karima Bawa is a Senior Fellow at the Centre for International Governance and Innovation (“CIGI”) and the LTEC Lab Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law. At CIGI, she has undertaken research related to the commercialization of university R&D and IP. As well, along with her CIGI colleague Myra Tawfik, she has developed a MOOC titled Foundations of IP Strategy. Prior to joining CIGI, she was the chief legal officer and general counsel at Research In Motion (now BlackBerry). In the twelve years she served at Research In Motion, one of her key responsibilities was to oversee critical and multi-jurisdictional intellectual property litigation that threatened the ongoing operations of the company. Karima holds a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Law and a Masters in Business Administration. At present Karima is also involved with advising and supporting technology start-ups.
