Biography

Brigide Mattar is a partner in the Montreal office of Smart & Biggar/Fetherstonhaugh, a top tier Canadian firm specialized in intellectual property and technology law. With more than 15 years of experience in the field, Brigide provides advice to small and medium sized innovative companies on, among others things, developing their patent procurement strategies, protecting their innovations and managing their patent portfolios.

She also regularly provides support to the firms’ litigation team by offering expertise in the preparation of infringement and validity opinions as well as in connection with freedom-to-operate (FTO) assessments.  Brigide graduated in electrical engineering from McGill University in 1997 and upon graduation was awarded the British Association Medal for Great Distinction as highest ranking student in her graduating class. She is a Registered Patent Agent in Canada since 2001 and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She is a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).

She also holds the designation of Engineer from l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and is the current President of le Forum international de la Propriété Intellectuelle — Québec (FORPIQ).
